Older Australians are being unfairly targeted by Labor’s plan to revoke the Howard era private health insurance rebate for over-65s.
According to experts, around 1.4 million people will bear the brunt of the decision and cost individuals up to $640 more each year.
Hunter based Nationals Senator for New South Wales, Ross Cadell, described the move as a “calculated cover up of Labor’s own failures on healthcare.”
“At a time when premiums are rising by the highest level in nearly a decade, and cost of living pressures are skyrocketing, this Labor decision is unacceptable,” Cadell said.
“Labor’s decision is a creative way of taking your money to fund its own failures.
“In simple terms, older Australians will now pay more to Canberra than ever before.”
Based on the Minister’s own estimates, around 60,000 older Australians will be forced to drop their private health cover as a result.
“If Australians can no longer afford to pay for private health insurance, more pressure will be placed on our already overrun public health system.
“This is another example of creative accounting from a Labor Government who will do anything to hide its inept ability to govern for all Australians.
“Last week it was creativity to justify defence spending, this week is it health care, what will it be next week?
“No matter how you look at it, Australian’s lose under Labor.
