Bowen “marking his own homework” on nuclear numbers
Modelling on nuclear energy from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water was based on a set of untested assumptions, an estimates hearing has heard.
Under questioning from NSW Nationals Senator, Ross Cadell, departmental official Simon Duggan confirmed the department simply ran a calculation based on numbers provided directly by Minister Bowen’s office.
“What the Department did was a set of calculations for the Minister based on a set of assumptions provided to us,” Mr Duggan said.
“We haven’t done any modelling, any analysis of a nuclear policy, simply performed some calculations upon request.”
Cadell described the lack of credibility in Bowen’s number as an attempt to game the system.
“Minister Bowen has set the assessment task, given himself the marking criteria, and then marked his own homework,” Cadell said.
“He has played the Australian people for fools by using his own fantasised numbers to beat the drum on his utopian climate goals.
“Minister Bowen may have passed the test he set himself … But he hasn’t passed the pub test.”
